Limitations (the following actions are not supported):

  • Syncing to a network drive
  • Creating a network drive out of a ShareFile folder
  • Mapping a folder inside the ShareFile sync folder
  • Syncing to a public folder that is shared on your network
  • Non-admin installations are currently not supported
  • ShareFile recommends adhering to a file path limit of no longer than 180 characters. Please shorten the path name by renaming its folders or in the case of Shared Folders, by only selecting the specific shared folders for synchronization instead of the root of the shared folder.

Install ShareFile Sync for Mac

To download the sync tool, log in to your ShareFile account, click Apps in the navigation bar and then locate Sync for Mac. Click the Download button to download the installation file. Once the installation file has been downloaded, double-click the installation file. First, double-click the ShareFile icon to begin installation.
You will be prompted to enter the email address associated with your ShareFile account. You may also select additional folders to sync. Use the folder tree to select which files within your Personal Folders to sync. (You can modify which folders you wish to sync later in the Sync Preferences.
Note: Removing a folder from your list of synced items will move that content to your computer's Recycle Bin.

Setting the sync location

To change the sync location on your Mac, access the Dashboard then select Preferences.

Access the folder location beneath Sync Location in order to change it. Please note that in order to change the sync location, the destination you select must be an empty folder.

Customizing sync access

Support for selective enablement of the sync tool allows you to limit access to specified users, typically those with managed or corporate devices. This feature is only available to Enterprise plans.
To use this feature with a ShareFile account that has the sync tool access set to Disabled, you must specify a custom key that is generated by your ShareFile administrator. ShareFile administrators can set this key by clicking Admin in the top navigation bar of their ShareFile account and then selecting Power Tools in the sidebar.

Under Sync, administrators can select Disabled to enter a custom 256-bit key.

On ShareFile Sync for Mac, this generated key must be added via Terminal.

To do so, run the following command, inserting the Generated Key where indicated:

  • defaults write com.citrix.sharefileFL.SFSyncEngine CustomSharedKey <EnterGeneratedKeyHere>

Additional Notes

Citrix ShareFile Sync for Mac supports StorageZones. (Restricted Zones are not supported).
This tool auto-updates. It will check for updates every day, and will only prompt for an administrator's password when certain files that require system changes are updated. The auto-update feature can be disabled for an account by contacting ShareFile Support.

To unlink your account, click the Unlink button in the upper right when viewing the Preferences menu.


Uninstall Sync for Mac

ShareFile recommends the following for Advanced Users. If you have a significantly large amount of data stored with your ShareFile Sync for Mac app, please consult your ShareFile Administrator prior to completely uninstalling the app.
Sync for Mac installations include an 'uninstallSync.sh' file. To perform a clean uninstall of Sync for Mac:

  1. Exit Sync for Mac
  2. Run the following command in Terminal.
  • sh /Applications/ShareFile.app/Contents/uninstallSync.sh

Overview

The UVA Health Apps Portal allows users to access commonly used applications such as Epic Hyperspace, MSOffice, Skype, and Kronos via an internet connection without the security and encryption requirements of VPN.

If you have an on-site HIT computer the Apps Portal also provides Remote Desktop access.

For a full list of applications please reference this link. Note that Enterprise applications are generally provided to all users while Departmental applications have restricted access.

Requirements and instructions for accessing UVA Health Apps Portal, using Citrix, are below.

  • Load Citrix Workspace client on the remote device (e.g. PC, Mac)

Note you will need two-step authentication (DUO) to access UVA Health Apps Portal. More information is available here.

Load Citrix Workspace Client

In order to access remote applications provided by UVA Health you will need to install the latest version of the Citrix Workspace Application on your local device. It is recommended that you download the latest version of the client directly from the Citrix website.

  1. Click the Download Citrix Workspace app for Windows

  2. When prompted, run the application.
  3. If prompted by User Account Control to allow the installation, choose yes:
  1. Click Start to begin the installation process
  1. Check the I accept the license agreement box and click Install
  2. Once completed, click the Finish button to close the installer.
Download Citrix for Mac
  1. Click the Download Citrix Workspace app for Mac
  1. After the file has finished downloading, launch the installer and double-click the Install Citrix Workspace.pkg option.

  2. Click Continue
  3. On the Introduction screen, click Continue
  4. On the License screen, click Continue and then Agree
  1. On the Installation Type screen, Click Install
  2. When prompted, provide your administrative password and click Install Software
  3. On the Add Account screen, leave the Add Account option unchecked and lick Continue
  4. On the Summary screen click Close
  5. Depending on the version of OSX installed on your Mac, you may be prompted to delete the installation package. Please select Move to Trash.

Access an Application on the UVA Health Portal

To access an application on the UVA Health Apps portal you will need to have been added to the appropriate security group for that application and have a working DUO account (for authentication). If you are unsure of what is required, work with your group management to request access.

Citrix
  1. Open a browser and access the Apps portal using the URL: https://portal.uvahealth.virginia.edu

    Provide your username and password and click Logon. When prompted, provide DUO authentication to complete the logon process.

  2. After completing the logon you will be presented with all resources that you have permissions to access listed under the Citrix Applications section. We manage our VPN connections using Citrix software.
  3. Click the application you would like to launch. Note that certain applications are organized in folders depending on their usage. Clicking on the folder will list all application in that category.

  4. When you launch the application you should be presented with a progress bar while your application is launched and the connection made to the UVA Health resource:

  • Direct drive access through Windows Explorer is not available via the Apps Portal.
  • One can access all standard drives within the provided application. For example, if you need to edit a Word Document on the O: drive, launch the provided Microsoft Word application and use the File -> Open menu to locate and edit the document
  • Due to the security requirements, dragging and dropping between applications will not work.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you receive a Security Warning when launching the application -
    Check the Do not ask me again for this site and click the Permit Use option.
  2. If the application does not launch when you click the icon -
    Follow the below steps for the different browsers. Some browsers will not automatically launch the application file which will require you to perform an additional step.
    Chrome
      • At the bottom left-hand corner of the Chrome window locate the most recently downloaded application file.
      • Select Always open files of this type and then click Open.
        Safari
      • Click the download button in the upper right-hand corner of your browser window.
      • Double-click the Citrix file that was most recently downloaded to launch the application.
        Firefox
      • Click the Do this automatically for files list this from now on And click OK.
  3. If User is unable to manipulate buttons within published applications-
    This is most often seen within Epic Hyperspace on Windows 10 devices.
    1. Ensure that the Windows Scaling is set to 100%. Laptops and certain high DPI monitors might change the scaling to 125% or 150%. Once the scaling is changed back to 100% all controls should work properly.
    2. Right-click on the desktop, choose Display Setting
    3. Under the Scale and layout section, set Change the size of text, apps, and other items to 100% (Recommended)
